The history (and present) of mass extinctions

Project description

As part of the 30 day chart challenge 2023, I created this infographic which is essentially a timeline of the various mass extinctions our planet has seen, with the goal of making people aware of the fact that we may be causing the next mass extinction through our behavior and negligence. The underlying line chart was created in Excel and the visualization was realized using Adobe Illustrator.

Process

1. Data preparation – Data retrieved from Our World in Data, then explored and analyzed in Excel.
2. Data analytics & visualization – Visualized the basic line chart in Excel.
3. Final product – Context and design added to the chart to create more of a comprehensive story.
